Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was hospitalized Sunday after being involved in a two-car crash on Interstate 93 in Manchester, New Hampshire.

According to state police, the accident happened when 19-year-old Lauren Kemp of Concord, driving a Honda HR-V southbound, rear-ended a rented Ford Bronco. The SUV was being driven by Ted Goodman, Giuliani’s spokesperson. The collision sent both vehicles into the median, leaving them heavily damaged.

Troopers and firefighters, already on the scene for a separate incident across the highway, immediately witnessed the crash and rushed to provide aid.

Giuliani’s head of security, Michael Ragusa, confirmed that the former mayor was taken to a nearby trauma center. Doctors discovered he had a fractured thoracic vertebrae, cuts, and bruises, along with injuries to his left arm and lower leg. He is expected to stay in the hospital for several days for further tests and will need to wear a brace as part of his recovery.

Despite the injuries, Michael Ragusa said Giuliani “is in good spirits and recovering tremendously.” His business partner and medical provider have since arrived at the hospital to oversee his care.

Giuliani, who served as New York City mayor from 1994 to 2001, later worked as Donald Trump’s personal lawyer. In recent years, he has remained in the spotlight for promoting false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election.
